OTISFIELD -- V. Jane Gallagher, 85, of Otisfield, Maine, Homosassa, Fla. and formerly of Squantum, Mass., passed away peacefully, Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at Stephens Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born on Feb. 11, 1927 in Hamilton, Calif., she was the daughter of Fred and Mable Rau of Lodi, Calif. Her younger years were spent in Oregon and California where she went to school and played the piano, clarinet, violin and accordion. Jane had a love for music and bowling and in later years was an avid crossworder and reader. She met and married her husband, Edward J. Gallagher, Jr., U.S. Navy, when he was stationed in California. They later settled in Massachusetts. She worked as a secretary for many years and spent the last 43 years enjoying her garden, hummingbirds and all that Thompson Lake offered.
Jane was a loving mother to her four children, Edward Gallagher, III and his wife Virginia of Hanover, N.H., Janet Gallagher and John Janulewicz of Wrentham, Mass., Karen Suski and her husband John Thibault of Otisfield, and Anne Gallagher and her husband Franky Vanpoucke of Squantum, Mass. She was a devoted grandmother to her five grandchildren, Colin Gallagher and his wife Cara, Joshua Geller, Kimberly Suski, Shay Ruggles and her husband Seth, and Devon Geller. She was recently blessed with a visit from her first great-grandson, Colgan Gallagher, son of Colin and Cara. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward; and her sister, Barbara Clements of Lodi, Calif.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 45 Main Street, South Paris, Maine. Family and friends are invited to gather in Jane's memory after the service, from 2:00-4:00 at the Smilin' Moose Publyk House and Tavern, 10 Market Square, South Paris.
