Susan Elizabeth Bragdon McCann, 92

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Susan Elizabeth Bragdon McCann, 92, passed away on July 12, 2017, in Lynchburg, Virginia. Born on Peaks Island, she was predeceased by the love of her life and husband for 65 years, Richard Dion McCann.

While Dick's work took the family all over the country, moving them 29 times through 16 states, Susan always thought of Peaks Island as home. Wherever they went, Susan made close friends and an inviting home. She will be most remembered for her quirky sense of humor, love of animals, faith, hospitality, brownies and expert handwork, especially knitting.

Throughout her life she made many treasures for loved ones and charitable organizations. She liked nothing better than to spend an afternoon at home, teaching someone how to knit, sipping her ever-present cup of hot tea with milk, and a cat by her side. Most recently, Susan coordinated a prayer shawl ministry at Centenary United Methodist Church, where she and Dick were active members for years. Up until her recent illness, she was still creating handknitted dishcloths that she loved to give to anyone who helped her.

Susan is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth McCann Webb, and son-in-law Jay; daughter, Laura McCann, and son-in-law Douglas Johnson; grandchildren, Adam Webb, Ryan Webb and his wife Eleanor, Ethan Webb and his wife Kristen, Sophie Johnson and William Johnson; and seven great-grandchildren,Virginia, Anne Page, Richard (Mac), Logan, Charles, Elizabeth (Broughton) and Sawyer. She also leaves many dear friends and relatives who cherish her memory.

The family will receive loved ones from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, July 16, at Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory, 427 Graves Mill Rd., Lynchburg. Susan's cremains will be interred with Dick's at a later date, with a private memorial service at Pond Grove Cemetery, Peaks Island. Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory, (434) 239-2405, is assisting the family. Memories and thoughts may be shared with the family at: www.heritagefuneralandcremation.com.
