Klein, 77
CUMBERLAND -- Stephen Richard Klein, 77, of Cumberland Foreside, passed away Dec. 18, 2012. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on Dec. 17, 1935 to Sadel and William Klein. Upon graduation from New York University, he went on to serve in the U.S. Army before graduating from NYU Medical School in 1965. He did an internship at the University of Kentucky, followed by residencies at Albert Einstein Medical Center and Montefiore Medical Center, and a neurosurgical residency at Emory University Hospital. He practiced neurological surgery in Portland beginning in 1973 until his retirement in 2005.
He was known by his family and friends for his love and generosity. He was a student of classical music, World War II history and the Holocaust. He enjoyed trivia of all sorts, his dogs, fishing, and traveling.
He leaves his wife, Lyndall Young Klein of Cumberland Foreside; daughters, Rachel Klein-Ash of Milton, Mass. and Abigail Klein of Auburn; a sister, Anne Klein Gore of West Covina, Calif. and New York, NY; a son-in-law, James Ash; three grandchildren, Elly and Bennett Ash and Iyana Albair. He was predeceased by his brother, Miles Klein; and his grandson, Isaiah Williams Albair.
A private service and burial were held on Dec. 21, 2012 at Temple Beth El Memorial Park.
