Roland Charles
Lampron, 85
PORTLAND -- Roland Charles Lampron, 85, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 at Maine Medical Center surrounded by his family.
He was born and raised in Westbrook, son of Lewis and Mary (Laberge) Lampron. As a teen Roland delivered milk for Elm Maple Farm to local variety stores. It is at Tanguay's Store on Brown Street that he met his bride to be, Gloria Bernier.
After two years in the Navy, he began courting Gloria and they were married on Nov. 20, 1948. Gloria predeceased him in August of 2010 and they had enjoyed 61 years of marriage. They raised five children and during that time, Roland worked full time at S.D. Warren Paper Company for 42 years, while running a successful interior and exterior painting business. He was well respected for his work.
He and Gloria enjoyed traveling to many places including Europe and Hawaii. Roland loved his family, first and foremost. He was a great story teller. He loved playing the banjo and entertained his family and friends, as well as audiences at nursing homes and local variety shows.
He also enjoyed dancing, playing pool in his basement with his family and friends, cross country skiing, gardening around his home, and his wife's homemade desserts! After he lost his wife in 2010, he found comfort in his new companion, Sweetie, his cat.
Roland is survived by three sons, Robert and his wife Diane of Westbrook, Thomas and his wife Julie of Buxton, and Donald and his wife Alana of Standish, two daughters Pauline Bernard and her husband Daniel of Gorham, and Jacqueline Gagnon and her husband Richard of Westbrook; a brother Hubert Lampron of Buxton, a sister, Grace Foley of Portland; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m.Thursday at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Church. Spring burial will be in St. Hyacinth Cemetery. On line condolences may be expressed at
