Roger J. Bougie, 86 ALFRED - Roger J. Bougie, 86, of Alfred, passed away suddenly at Maine Medical Center in Portland, surrounded by his wife and family on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017. He was born in Sanford on Feb. 2, 1931, the son of the late Ovila and Eva (Rouleau) Bougie. He attended Sanford schools before joining the military and served in the U.S. Army four years during the Korean War. After the military he moved to Laconia, N.H., and started his family with his wife, Leontine (Lee). In 1978 he started The Edison Press and owned and operated the business for many years. In 1985 he started his second business, Mountain View Golf Range, which he owned until he retired in 1996. In 2000, Roger married Mary Jane Binette and moved to Alfred. Roger was an avid golfer at the Sanford Country Club where he earned Club Champion status. A highlight of his golfing career was the year he was chosen as caddy for Jack Nicklaus when the golfer came to the Sanford Country Club. Roger was a member of St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW and the American Legion. Roger enjoyed traveling. He spent many winters in Myrtle Beach where he continued to play golf. He also enjoyed gardening, shopping and card games with his family and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Leontine; sister, Jacqueline Goudreau; and brothers, Gerard, Fernand, Paul, Rheal and Conrad Bougie. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Bougie, of Alfred; children, Denise Young and her husband Arthur, of Hookset, N.H.; Joanne Bourassa and her husband James, of Sanford; Andre Bougie and his wife Jennifer, of Clermont, Fla.; and John Bougie, of Sanford; stepchildren, David Binette and his wife Nancy, of Owings Mills, Md.; Celeste Senecal and her husband James, of Yarmouth; Stephen Binette, of Hampton Beach, N.H.; and Monique Fox and her husband Wesley, of Virginia Beach, Va.; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Lorraine Grondin and her husband Ronald, Simone Allen and her husband Paul, and Rita Grondin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church. Burial will be at St. Ignatius Cemetery at a later date. Per his wishes, visiting hours will be private for the immediate family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford.
