Robert M. "Bob" Napolitano, 78
PORTLAND - Robert M. "Bob" Napolitano, 78, of Congress Street, died on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Portland.
Bob was born in Portland, Maine on Jan. 2, 1939, the son of the late Orlando M. and Ernestine (Tingley) Napolitano. He attended local schools, graduating from Cheverus High School in 1957 and then earning his Doctorate from St. Francis Xavier University and his Law Degree from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia. Bob was known as one of the best criminal lawyers in the State of Maine and practiced law for over 50 years taking on a number of high profile cases.
Bobby was one of the best athletes ever to graduate Cheverus High School. He was 1st team All State basketball his sophomore, junior and senior year at Cheverus. He was 1st team All State football quarterback and safety junior and senior years at Cheverus. He was also a standout at St. Francis Xavier earning the Varsity Basketball-Maritime MVP 1962-63 season along with the Maritime title. The perfect phrase to describe his athletic abilities and aptitude was "pure wizardry". Bob was inducted into the Cheverus Hall of Fame in 2007. Bobby was humble and unassuming. His office wasn't flashy. But in the end it's really about the facts. Bob was a champion athlete, a supportive father, a great lawyer and helped out many folks over the years with a very generous heart.
Bob was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph, Eddy, and Patsy Napolitano. He is survived by his loving son, Joseph of Portland, and longtime companion, Garbrielle Gorham, best friend and love of 31 years and her son Jackson, a special cousin John Cloutier of Scarborough, along with many other cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 72 Federal Street, Portland. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery on Broadway in South Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of
