Robert L. Streng, 83
BOOTHBAY HARBOR -- Robert L. Streng, 83, was born on Oct. 21, 1927, in Whitestone, N.Y., and passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2011, in Boothbay Harbor, his home for the past 39 years.
Bob lead a very full life which included joining the U.S. Navy at age 17 to serve his country during WWII. Upon his return, he joined the New York Police Department where he served for 22 years and was decorated on four occasions.
After retiring from the N.Y.P.D. Bob relocated to Boothbay Harbor where he served as the towns first sergeant of the Boothbay Harbor Police department from 1973 to 1975 years and then went on to work at The Lincoln County Courthouse and finally Maine Yankee.
Along the way Bob learned and excelled at skiing, sailing, flying light planes, hunting, trap and skeet shooting and always having a good time! Never one to decline a cocktail, cigar or a request from a pretty lady, Bob enjoyed his final days gazing at 'prettiest view in the world' from his home.
Bob leaves behind two sons, Richard and Keith, both of New York; his beloved granddaughter, Nascha, of whom he is most proud; Keith's wife Anne, 'The daughter he never had;' his Boothbay Harbor family, Dana and Cathy Hodgdon; his niece, Sally Jane Freelander; and his grandnephew, Ben, to whom he introduced shooting.
At Bob's request no funeral will be held, however and much more fitting, a celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date. You are invited to share your condolences, photos and tribute with the Streng family by visiting their Book of Memories at hallfuneralhomes.com. Arrangements are entrusted to Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay.
As Bob Streng said 'Don't ever shed a tear over me, I have had a great life.'
