Rita Evelyn Moore, 91
WESTBROOK - Rita Evelyn Moore, 91, of Westbrook, died at Springbrook Center on Monday, June 12, 2017. She was born in Windsor, England on August 8, 1925, the only child of Reginald and Mae (Hollingsworth) Hollis.
She grew up in Slough, England where she attended school. She met her future husband, Robert Moore, while he was on tour with the United States Air Corp. They were married on Sept. 23, 1945, and had their first child, Barry, while still in England. A military family, they moved all over the United States and Europe, raising their family, before settling in Maine.
She was employed as an accountant with various companies including Rines Brothers, Sole Glass, and Boyd Corp. An avid reader, Rita was often found with a book in her hand or her knitting needles hard at work. Known for her knitted Mary Maxim sweaters, she was also a talented seamstress, even crafting her daughter's wedding gown. Rita enjoyed cooking for her family, especially deserts and loved caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rita is survived by her children, Barry Moore and his wife, Judith of Thomasville, Ga., Vicki Pickreign and her husband, Robert of Limington, and Brian Moore of Westbrook; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Stephen Moore in 1996, and her husband, Robert Moore in 2003.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the third floor staff at Springbrook for the excellent care they gave Rita.
A memorial graveside service will be held on Friday, June 23 at 1pm at Woodlawn Cemetery, 380 Stroudwater St., Westbrook, ME 04092. To express condolences or participate in Rita's online tribute, please visit www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com.
