Richard 'Rick' L. Roberts, 42
PORTLAND -- Richard Lee Roberts, 42, of Portland died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Mercy Hospital.
Rick was born in Portland, the son of Donald and Bernice (Parker) Roberts, where he was educated and attended Gorham schools.
Rick married the love of his life, Erica Shaw, on Sep. 3, 1993, whom he met at the stock car races.
Rick worked for New England Truck Tire for twenty-five years, most recently as the plant foreman. Rick was known for his hard work and dedication. Rick was the 'go to' person and knew the ins and outs of the business.
He enjoyed NASCAR and loved going to the races in New Hampshire. He was a great Bass Fisherman and always caught more fish than anyone he was with. He was an avid hunter and just loved being outdoors. He enjoyed camping every weekend with his buddies and family. He had a great appreciation of nature, whether it was the trees, sunsets or the water. His friends and family are going to miss the daily text message from Rick just to say 'Hi' or show what he was eating for dinner. He loved his cats Katie, Chloe and Bianca.
He had a great devious laugh and was a great uncle, who loved fireworks keeping everyone on edge.
He is predeceased by his father Donald Roberts; father-in-law Wayne V. Shaw; and brother-in-law Matthew W. Shaw.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years Erica Roberts of Portland; mother Bernice Roberts of Gorham; three brothers, Donald L. and wife Rose Roberts of Ohio, Randall Roberts of Gorham, Russell and wife Samantha Roberts of Windham; mother-in-law Rosemary J. Shaw of Portland; brother-in-law Vincent E. and wife Kelly Shaw of Gorham; five nieces, Audrey, Caroline, Amanda, Jessica, Debbie and one nephew, Corey and many extended family and loving friends.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland, Maine 04106. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 12 at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed online at
