SOUTH PORTLAND -- Richard Michael Day, 77, of South Portland, died on Nov. 6, 2012, at Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough. He was born in Portland, the son of Murdoch M. and Helen R. (King) Day.
Richard was a graduate of Portland High School, and he attended Husson College.
He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1959.
Following his military service, Richard worked several different jobs before becoming a counselor for Maine Youth Center. Richard was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church. He was a member of the South Portland VFW Post No. 832 and the Harold T. Andrews American Legion Post No. 17.
He enjoyed playing cards, watching sports, and playing pool.
Richard was predeceased by his parents. Survivors include a son, Richard M. Landry of Scarborough; sister, Donna J. DePaolo of South Portland; and nephews, Thomas J. DePaolo, and Mark DiPietrantonio both of South Portland.
Richards family would like to extend their appreciation to Gosnell Memorial Hospice House and Dr. Andrew Candelore of Scarborough for their care throughout Richards illness.
Prayers will be recited at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church, Main Street, South Portland.
