Richard D. Libby Obituary
Richard D. Libby, 69
FRYEBURG - Richard D. "Rick" Libby, 69, of Fryeburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at Bridgton Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Richard was born in Portland on Dec. 24, 1946, the son of Richard I. and Phyllis G. Wambolt Libby, and attended South Portland Schools and the University of Southern Maine.
Rick worked as an electrician for most of his life and had worked at Aladdin Electric in Portland, which did all the electrical work around the Exchange Street and Congress Street areas for two very exceptional people, Mr. Bob Monks and Mr. Howard Goldenfarb. He was very good at service work and loved by everyone he met.
He was especially skilled at working in existing buildings, figuring out how they were built and finding a way to get the job done using his knowledge. Because of this, he became especially valuable in landmark buildings, such as 477 Congress Street (Time and Temperature Building), where he seldom missed his 9 a.m. coffee at the Village Green Coffee Shop located inside. Rick also was sought after and hired by several other large and well-known companies like Mancini, Atlantic Coast and Boulos Electric, and trained many electrician helpers. He was a member of the IBEW Local 567 electrical workers union.
Rick married Marguerite Barras White on July 15, 1989.
He was a member of the Bradley Memorial United Methodist Church in Fryeburg. Rick loved old cars, tractors, and animals, especially dogs. He adopted many pets in his lifetime.
He is survived by his wife, Marge, of Fryeburg; three brothers, Craig Libby and his wife, Roberta, of Gorham, Jeffrey Libby and his wife, Patty, of Holiday, Fla., and Kent Libby of San Diego, Calif.; three nieces, Jennifer, Delight and Rica; four nephews, Derek, Peter, Brian and Kyle; in addition to several cousins, grand-nieces and grand-nephews; a stepdaughter, Leanne Gagne, and her husband Greg, of Dixfield; a stepson, Richard White, and his wife Leslie, of Rangeley; seven grandchildren, Marc Gagne and wife, Meghan, Katherine Endsley and husband, Jason and Amanda, Lysandria and Lacee White; six great-grandchildren; and his best friends, Jerry and Mary Jane Strumph, and Rod and Leigh Stone and their family.
Visiting hours will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at the Wood Funeral Home, 9 Warren St., Fryeburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bradley Memorial United Methodist Church in Fryeburg. Burial will follow at the Bemis Cemetery.
