Raymond M. Little, 81
NEWPORT & BANGOR -- Raymond M. 'Ray' Little, 81, died on Dec. 20, 2012, at his home in Newport.
He was born on June 3, 1931, in Portland, the son of Gilbert M. and Helen L. (Hamm) Little.
Ray was a graduate of Deering High School, Bowdoin College where he served in the ROTC and earned an MBA from Loyola University in Chicago.
He was a U.S.
veteran serving in Newfoundland during the
and served with the Transportation Corps in the Army Reserves in multiple states.
Ray resigned his commission from the U.S. Army as a Lt. Colonel and joined the 195th Army Band of the Maine Army National Guard retiring in 1992. He worked as the operations manager for City Service Oil Co. (Citgo) from 1955 to 1971. He was the owner and manager of Mr. Donut and the Feed Bag in Brewer, worked for Schwann's Ice Cream, owned and operated the Gentleman's Farm in Hermon and he retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
Ray was also involved in other various organizations. He volunteered with the Salvation Army, served as the treasurer of the Penobscot County Extension Service, was an Eagle Scout and an assistant Scout Master, played the tuba for many local bands and was the president of Hog Growers Association of Maine.
Surviving in addition of his wife, Lillian M. (Curtis) Little of Newport are four children and their spouses: Joyce and Mark DeHaan of Idaho, Roy and Cindy Little of Carmel, Bruce and Terry Little of Saco and Kris Little and Elaine Hopf of California; six grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Ready and her husband Robert of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Betty Stocks and her husband Joseph of Scarborough; nieces and nephews.
A chapel service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. Condolences may be offered to his family at
