SACO -- Phyllis Berkhoudt, 101, of Seaside Avenue, Saco, passed away on Jan. 30, 2013, at her residence. She was born on Nov. 21, 1911, in Camborne, England, the second child of John and Mabel Holman Tripp. At the age of two, the family came to the Eastern United States, where shortly after her parents became Salvation Army officers. They moved to various appointments in the United States.
She became a Salvation Army officer and a few years later, met and married Henry Berkhoudt in 1935. They served The Lord in ministry from 1935 until their retirement to Saco in 1977. She was very active with Women's Ministry which she loved dearly. She devoted her time to loving and ministering to women from all walks of life.
She leaves her daughter and caregiver, Gail Lipinski of Saco; two grandsons, Heath and William Goodliff and their wives; and two great-grandchildren, Emily and Jenny. Her beloved husband, Henry preceded her to Heaven in 2004.
A special thanks to Hospice of Southern Maine and Kathy Stiling for their special care and consideration for Phyllis.
A private family burial will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco. Norm Garcia of The Salvation Army will officiate. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Salvation Army, Old Orchard Beach. Dennett, Craig and Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St., Saco are in charge of the arrangements.
