Phoebe Bowman Obituary
Phoebe (Ireland) Espy Bowman, 80
CINCINNATI, Ohio - Phoebe (Ireland) Espy Bowman, born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Nov. 3, 1934, lost her short battle with cancer on June 18, 2015.
She was predeceased by her parents Wallace and Ruth Espy; and survived by her husband John Healy; her children Michael and wife Karen of Salem, Ill., Robin of Pawtucket, R.I., and Chris and wife Karen of Cincinnati, Ohio; and her grandchildren Carter, Ben, Connor, Chris and Kendall.
She had a degree in English from Northwestern University. Her life-long love affair with books and learning didn't stop when she graduated, attending classes up to her death at the University of Cincinnati. She earned honorary degrees through her children at National College of Chiropractic, Maine Photographic Workshop, and Wake Forest School of Law.
She was a member of the Cincinnati Country Club and the Abenakee Club in Biddeford Pool. She attended the Horizon Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the St. Martin's in the Field Rectory in Biddeford Pool.
She was a pilot, an avid tennis player, loved to garden and adored her grandchildren. One of her favorite pastimes was playing pinochle with friends.
She married her soul mate on Sept. 10, 1980, and they enjoyed 35 years together, travelling the world and spending time with family and friends. To those who knew and loved her, she was the "Little General," never afraid to share her opinion or express her love. Her stories will live on in our memories.
A memorial service will be held on Aug. 11, time to be determined, at St. Martin's In the Field, Biddeford. Condolences may be shared with the family, through our website www.
