Philomena 'Fifie' Katherine Brown, 95
GORHAM -- Philomena 'Fifie' Katherine Brown, 95, formerly of Gorham, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 22, 2013, at Mercy Hospital.
She was born in Boston, Mass., on Nov. 9, 1917, the child of the late Joseph and Concetta (Peperato) Curato. She was brought up in Rumford and graduated from Stevens High School.
Later, she moved to Portland and began her career as a seamstress and worked for several companies such as Porteous, Martha McLean's Specialty Shop, and Ward Brothers. She also worked as a seamstress out of her home. Not only did she work as seamstress, Fifie genuinely had a love for sewing and found no job too difficult for her customers.
She was a member of the Central Square Baptist Church on Stevens Avenue in Portland for many years and was involved with many of the church's activities. She later joined her children at Living Waters Christian Church in Buxton and was also involved with many of the church's activities there, including Bible Study classes.
Fifie will be forever remembered for wearing clothes in her favorite color, Red.
She was predeceased by her husband, Blanchard Brown; a son, Joseph Brown; and siblings, James 'Vincenzo,' Patrick, Lawrence, Alice, Rose, Esther, Frank, Dominic and John. She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Berry of Cornish, Beverly Keith of Gorham, and Susan Legere of Standish; siblings, Antoinette Bill and Joseph Curato Jr.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, and one expected great- great-grandchild.
Visitation will be on Friday, Jan. 25, from 4-5 p.m., followed by a 5 p.m. funeral service at Living Waters Christian Church, located on the hill at the corners of Rt. 22 and 112 in West Buxton. Burial will be private amongst her family at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland. Arrangements are with Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, Buxton
