Philip A. Xaphes, 84
SCARBOROUGH - Philip A. Xaphes, 84, of Pine Point, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
He was born in Biddeford, July 17, 1933, the son of Dr. Chrysaphes John and Marguerite (Beauregard) Xaphes. He was educated in Biddeford schools and graduated from St. Louis High School in the Class of 1953.
While playing baseball at St. Louis, his 100 mph fastball had attracted the attention of Red Sox scouts. He then attended Bates College.
Philip worked in the real estate and banking professions all his life.
On June 11, 1994, he married Deborah Dunfield, and was a devoted husband.
Philip was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Biddeford. He had a great sense of humor. He was an avid reader, and loved music and sports.
Preceding him in death were his beloved Deborah, on March 27, 2012; and his brother, John F. Xaphes, on Oct. 4, 2001.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Adelheid Xaphes; special cousins, Michel and Debbie Beauregard, of Ottawa, Canada; several distant cousins; and many friends.
There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at the St. Anne Chapel of St. Joseph's Church in Biddeford. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. To share condolences online, please visit:
