YARMOUTH -- Paul V. Daley of Glen Rd., formerly of W. Brookfield, Mass., passed away peacefully at home Dec. 19, 2012 at the age of 89. He was born in Medford, Mass. on May 23, 1923 where he grew up with three brothers and two sisters. Paul was active in the Boy Scouts, serving as assistant scout master in Medford, Mass. He also worked as a camp counselor at Aggassiz Village on Thompson Lake in Maine. Paul was a graduate of Medford High School; Bridgewater State College; earned his master's degree from Boston College and continued his education at Columbia University.
His career in education started in Washington, D.C., then to Mansfield, Conn. as a teaching principal, followed by four years in Talara, Peru SA as a school administrator for Stand Oil of NJ, then to Fisher's Island, NY as a supervising principal. He was chief school administrator in the Greenville, NY schools and then from 1966-1982 Superintendent of Schools in Warren, Mass., West Brookfield, Mass., and New Braintree, Mass. Despite difficulties with his health and vision Paul was able to continue his work in education, always making decisions in favor of what is best for the students while ignoring the politics involved.
Paul was interested in stamp collecting, mineral specimens and genealogy.
Paul leaves behind his wife, Louise Conant Daley; his daughter Susan L. Daley, two sons, James P. Daley, William P. Daley; two grandchildren, Trista L. Daley and Stefan W. Shaft; daughter in-law Laura L. Daley; and his sister Hazel Ecker.
A private family service is planned for Dec. 22, 2012 at Hall Funeral Home, Casco with burial at Lakeside Cemetery in Casco.
