WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Patrick Henry Flynn, 69, of West Palm Beach, Fla., passed away on Friday, Jan. 4, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital, after a brief illness. For the past seven years, as Founder and President of the Palm Beach Theater Guild, Mr. Flynn led the crusade to save the historic Royal Poinciana Playhouse in Palm Beach. Mr. Flynn was born in Salem, Mass. on April 5, 1943 and attended St. John's Prep, Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, Boston University School of Public Communication, Weston School of Theology and Harvard Business School. An entrepreneur his entire life, Mr. Flynn left the family leather tanning business (Flynntan) for a career as a real estate developer and resort owner in Maine. He later returned to Boston to become a playwright and was subsequently named President of the developmental theatre Playwrights' Platform. He was also a critic for the City Paper (Boston), Washington Post and Miami New Times. A devoted father, Mr. Flynn spearheaded the campaign for equal rights for both parents all the way to the Massachusetts Supreme Court. Last year, Mr. Flynn brought the Palm Beach community together when he produced the Centennial Follies. He was recognized as one of the 'Palm Beach Elite: 100 People Who Get Things Done.' A deeply faithful man, Mr. Flynn was a devout parishioner of St. Ann's Church in West Palm Beach and Christ Fellowship in Palm Beach Gardens.
He was predeceased by his father Michael, his mother Florence (Hollingsworth;) and his sister Maryellen (Cabot). He is survived by his son, Patrick Warner Flynn of Washington, DC; his sister Florence of West Palm Beach, his two brothers Michael, Jr. and John of Massachusetts; twelve nieces and nephews; and nineteen great-nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family between the hours of 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, at QUATTLEBAUM FUNERAL HOME, 1201 South Olive Avenue West Palm Beach, FL 33401. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 345 South Military Trail West Palm Beach, FL 33415.
