MICHIGAN -- Sunday morning, Nov. 18, 2012, Emil Frank went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior. Emil was 92.
Emil was born in Horsham, Saskatchewan Canada to Jacob and Lydia Frank. He was the first in his family to graduate high school and then went on to Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta. Emil graduated from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Minneapolis where he earned a Masters of Divinity. He met and married the love of his life Muriel Johnson from Portland. They moved to Siloam Springs, Ark., where they were missionaries and shared the good news of Jesus at rural schools. Emil accepted his first pastorate to the Payson Park Evangelical Free Church in Portland, and served there from 1950-1961. He was then asked to lead the Sound Beach Community Church on Long Island, N.Y., from 1961-1984.
Emil and Muriel retired to Portland to be near Muriel's family. Emil was a devoted husband and cared for Muriel through her years with Alzheimer's. They moved to Gaylord, Mich., in 2007 and lived with Newell, Colleen and family.
Emil was known for his games, jokes, love of people and Jesus. He is survived by his sister, Erna Tyminski from Leduc Alberta; his sisters-in-law, Lois Eastman from Portland, and Olga Frank from Red Deer Alberta; his son Douglas from Anchorage, Alaska, his son Laurence and his family, Catherine, Julian and Elliot from Los Angeles, his daughter Colleen Cerak and her family, Newell, Carly, Whitney and her husband Matt Wheeler and their son Zachary; and nieces and nephews in Canada and Maine.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 11 a.m., with visitation at 10 a.m., at Gaylord Evangelical Free Church in Gaylord, Mich.
