Miles Covell Freeman Obituary

OGUNQUIT - Miles Covell Freeman, 95, of Grasshopper Lane, died peacefully in his home after a long illness, on July 4, 2016.

Born Aug. 18, 1920, the son of Harry and Marion (Johnson) Freeman, he grew up in Portland on Stevens Avenue, graduating from Deering High School in 1938.

He graduated from Iowa State University in 1948, after choosing Civilian Public Service during WWII. On April 14, 1956, he married Dr. Ruth Endicott. Freeman founded the York County chapter of Habitat for Humanity in 1985.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Walter Freeman, Louise Phillips, and Ada Willey; and a daughter, Nella Hudon, in 2004.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Lynne Freeman-Sauer and her husband, David, of Wells; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at the United Methodist Church of Ogunquit.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity of York County.
