Mary Godin
DeWalt, 47
LOGAN, Ohio -- Mary Godin DeWalt, 47, of Logan, Ohio, died at home on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, due to complications of cancer. Mary was
known among all who knew her as a kind, loving person with a gentle spirit. She had a particular affinity for four-legged creatures and surrounded herself with many in her later adult life.
Mary was born in Waterville on Aug. 31, 1965 to Robert Leo and Muriel Theresa (Rossignol) Godin, of Oakland, Maine, who survive, as do five siblings, Patricia Godin, Lubec, Maine, David Godin and his wife Karen, of Levant, Maine, Celine Godin M.D. and her partner, Jac Ouellette, of South Portland, Richard Godin of Embden, Maine; Heidi Godin Potter and her husband Don, of Mount Vernon; and a large extended family.
Having graduated from Messalonskee High School in Oakland, Mary's postsecondary studies included Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, where she earned a degree in medical technology and Ohio State University where she earned a bachelor of science degree in natural resources. She had worked in several medical laboratories in Maine, Texas and Ohio and was the office manager of Southeastern Surgery in Lancaster, Ohio. She also had been a substitute teacher in the Logan-Hocking School System.
In 1991, Mary relocated to Columbus, Ohio, and married John D. DeWalt D.O., July 24, 1993, who survives, along with their daughter, Megan Elizabeth DeWalt. Also surviving are stepchildren, David and his wife Lynne DeWalt, Mark and his wife Paige DeWalt, Claire DeWalt; and eight grandchildren.
Mary volunteered in many different areas -- at St. John's where she also served on the Board of Education. She taught reading and General Educational Development diploma classes and served as an adult leader with the Hocking County 4-H Rough Riders.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Waterville. Interment will be at St. Francis Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville, followed by a reception at Sacred Heart Church, Pleasant Street, Waterville.
