GORHAM -- MAJOR Paul Hamblen, USAF, Retired, 85, of Gorham, died on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Gorham on Oct. 17, 1927, the son of the late Forrest and Effie (Welch) Hamblen.
Paul was educated in Gorham and graduated from Gorham High School. He furthered his education at the University of Maine until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.
During his career in the military he served his country during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Era flying many military aircraft then went on to maintain them and retired honorably after 23 years of service with rank of Major.
Following his service, he worked for Fairchild Semiconductor as a foreman for three years before becoming employed at Maine National Bank as a Vice President for many years working into his retirement.
He was a member of the First Parish Church Congregational in Gorham for many years.
Paul enjoyed painting oil paintings, an avid runner and playing the drums. He was a truly loving family man along with his wife, Dale.
He shared 54 years of marriage with the late Dale Rose (Koach) Hamblen who died in 2005. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Janette Critchley. Family members include a son, Steven F. Hamblen of Gorham, three daughters, Paula Lee of Windham, Linda D. Fraser of South Harpswell and Dona Jo Kanyock and her husband, Steven of Largo, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Jacob Paul Fraser, Benjamin Wayne Fraser and Weston Kanyock.
Relatives and friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Dolby & Dorr Funeral Chapel, 76 State St., Gorham, on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, from 1-2 p.m., followed by a graveside service with full military honors at the Eastern Cemetery, Gorham at 2:30 p.m. For online condolences, please visit our website at www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com.
