M. Joyce Nicholson McCallum Nye Obituary
M. Joyce Nicholson McCallum Nye
WINDHAM - M. Joyce Nicholson McCallum Nye passed away on Dec. 24, 2016, after a long and full life.
Joyce was born in Washington, D.C., but grew up in the West End of Portland. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy and the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.
She married Donald F. McCallum in 1955. Don and Joyce moved to Cape Elizabeth in 1962. After Donald's death in 1966, she remained in their home and raised her three daughters, Mame, Sara and Megaen McCallum.
Joyce was employed for many years in healthcare. She was involved in home health, developing healthcare for under-served areas in Maine and other regions of the country.
In 1977, she married Reginald Nye and in 1988 they moved to Fort Myers, Florida, where they spent winters and returned to Sebago Lake for their summers. Reginald died in 2005. However, Maine was always home and in 2013, Joyce returned to Windham.
Joyce is survived by her daughters, Mame Bowman, Sara Morin and Megaen Morse; as well as her eight beloved grandchildren, Walker, Emma and McCallum Bowman; Carson, McCallum and Blake Brogan; and Michael and Margaret Morse. She also leaves her brother, David Nicholson; and several nieces and nephews. A special mention is made here of her much-loved son-in-law, David Morin.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress St., Portland. To express condolences and to participate in Joyce's online tribute, please visit: www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com.
