Lucille V. Costello, 91

SCARBOROUGH – Lucille V. Costello, 91, died on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.

Lucille was born in Gorham, N.H., on Nov. 10, 1926, the daughter of the late Philip and Alice (Gilbert) Garneau. She grew up in Gorham, attended local schools, and graduated from Gorham High School, Class of 1944.

Lucille married Peter M. Costello on Oct. 12, 1950, in Gorham, N.H. Together they traveled the country while Peter was enrolled in the United States Navy. She was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as an expert seamstress.

She was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Olin; and a brother, Leo Garneau.

Lucille is survived by her husband of 67 years, Cmdr. Peter Costello, USN (Retired), of Scarborough; two daughters, Mary Costello, of Westbrook; and Kate Donahue and her husband, Chris, of New York; three sons, Michael Costello, of Massachusetts; John Costello and his wife, Diane, of Massachusetts; and Capt. Patrick Costello, USN (Retired), and his wife, Susan, of Virginia; two sisters, Pauline Vallee, of New Hampshire, and Puffy Webb, of New Hampshire; and nine grandchildren, Sean, Michelle, Matthew, Andrew, Allison, Kirsten, Michael, Stephen, and Ryan.

Visiting hours and a celebration of Lucille's life will be held from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2018, followed by an 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough.
