Linda Cooper Rich, 85
CAPE ELIZABETH - Linda Cooper Rich, a longtime resident of Cape Elizabeth, passed away on August 8, 2017, following a lengthy illness.
Linda, daughter of Llewellyn L. Cooper and Aileen Williams Cooper, was born in Augusta on July 21, 1932. She graduated from Cony High School in 1950 and from Radcliffe College in 1954. Following her college graduation, she taught English at the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Mass. until 1956. At that time, she married her husband, Peter Rich, and relocated to Colorado. After several years, they returned to Maine, where she resided until her death.
From an early age, Linda was an accomplished knitter. While in college, she supported herself by knitting women's' clothing for a boutique in Cambridge, Mass. Later, she co-founded Pine Tree Knitters, a small company that created hand-crafted knitted outerwear for several local and mail order retailers.
In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Linda enjoyed raising and training her dogs. Whether in obedience, the agility ring, or the tracking fields, her dogs provided great joy to her, her family, and her friends.
Linda is survived by Peter, her husband of 61 years; her three children, Jennifer, Elizabeth, and Thomas; and her two grandsons, Will and Jon.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m., Sept. 16, at Riverside Cemetery in Cape Elizabeth.
