FALMOUTH -- Kirke W. Walker Jr., 92, died at Falmouth House on May 18, 2013.
The son of Kirke W. Sr. and Clara (Meinzer) Walker, he was born on Feb. 17, 1921, in Boston, Mass. He graduated from Hyde Park, Mass., High School and attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He was married to Gladys Eastman of Westwood, Mass., and after her death to Ann Wooley of Richmond, Ind., who is also deceased.
Besides his wives, he was predeceased by his parents; and a step son, Richard Eastman. He is survived by his friend, Ursula Richter of Falmouth; a step daughter, June Chick of Atkinson, N.H.; a step granddaughter, Debra Kissel of Plaistow, N.H.; a brother, Alan Walker of Rutland, Vt.; and several nieces, nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.
Kirke was a combat veteran in
World War II
, where he was a bombardier in the United Sates Air Corps, participating in 30 missions over Germany. He was a career symphony orchestra violinist, first with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and later with the Minnesota Orchestra. In retirement he enjoyed traveling, and visited many places world-wide.
A memorial gathering will take place at Oceanview in Falmouth on May 28, at 12 p.m. Arrangements are under the care of Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. Please visit
