Joseph J. Radziucz, Sr., 91
WINTHROP - Joseph J. Radziucz, Sr., 91, died peacefully on Jan. 31, 2013 in Augusta. He was born in Portland, on Nov. 1, 1921, the son of Elias and Maria (Blaskiemicz) Radziusz.
Joseph grew up in Portland in the Polish community and was a faithful communicant of St. Louis Church, where he served as an alter server when he was younger. When he was 17, he enlisted in the United States
and proudly served the country in the Pacific Theater under General McArthur. After he returned home, he worked as a mechanic for several shops in the South Portland area. Joseph had his pilot's license and enjoyed flying, along with taking long walks well into his later years, working on his boat at Pine Point, hunting, and fishing.
In addition to his parents, Joseph is predeceased by two brothers, John and Michael, a sister, Helen Saniuk; and a nephew Frank Saniuk. He is survived by a son, Joseph Radiucz, Jr. and wife Caryn of South Portland, and a daughter, Penelope Kimball and husband Lee of Cape Elizabeth; grandson, Aaron Radziucz; former wife, Jane P. Radziucz of Cape Elizabeth; and a niece, Vickey Saniuk of South Portland.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Louis Church, 279 Danforth Street, Portland.
