SCARBOROUGH -- Joseph F. Connolly, 69, of Scarborough, died unexpectedly on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, following a day of hunting with his two brothers.
He was born on April 28, 1943, in Portland, the son of Francis P. and Helen L. Fisher Connolly. Joe was a 1961 graduate of Bridgewater Academy.
Following high school, Joe served with the Air Force in California for four years. After his military service he returned to Maine. He married the former Mary Jane Brown in 1965 at Holy Cross Church in South Portland.
Joe continued his education at SMVTI and later accepted a position with Fairchild's. In 1968, Joe began a career in the field of real estate. He began his career working with the Harnden Realty for several years. He later became an owner in the Peterson Realty Company and later formed the Connolly-Webber Agency. Joe was currently working with the ReMax by the Bay of Portland.
He was a communicant of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church and was a very active devout catholic who enjoyed the rosary and attended Mass daily. He often attended Mass at the Monastery of the Precious Blood. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He had been active in the National Association of Realtors and the Portland Board of Realtors. Joe was a Top Selling Producer for several years.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time at camp. His passion was hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed doing this activity with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Connolly of Scarborough; two daughters, Pamela M. Banks and her husband Robert III of Portland, Susan L. Connolly of Scarborough; two brothers, Richard F. Connolly and his wife Concetta of Hopkinton, N.H., James M. Connolly and his wife Spring of Scarborough; four grandchildren, David, Chrystal, Joseph and Jessica Alexander; three great-grandchildren, Alexis and Camron Alexander, and Katherine Serfes; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday at the chapel, followed by a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Rd., Scarborough. Military rites will follow the Mass. Private interment will be at New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. On line condolences may be expressed to the family at: www.ctcrawford.com.
