BRIDGTON - John William "Bill" Moore passed away peacefully at home, sur-rounded by his loved ones, on Wednesday, Mar. 15, 2017.
Bill was born Feb. 7, 1930, in Dayton, Ohio, to Jean and William Moore.
His job at 12, as a soda jerk, gave him his first taste of working in a drugstore. It is also where he later met Beverly, the love of his life and future wife of 63 years.
Bill attended Ohio State University, completing his five-year pharmacy degree in 1953.
He worked as a pharmacist at many hospitals and pharmacies, both in Ohio and Maine, until his retirement in his 70s. He loved working many years at the Bridgton Hospital, and that love was returned by staff tenfold.
Bill was an avid Ohio State fan and as is only natural, considered Michigan State fans his arch enemies. It was long suspected that his mild hearing loss came from years of playing the Buckeyes' marching music at decibel levels higher than humanly healthy.
Throughout his life, Bill enjoyed growing roses, traveling, square dancing, playing bridge, working with the Masons (serving as past Grand Master in 1987 and again in 1992), and doting on his wife.
He will be remembered for being patient, gentle, hardworking, and a fierce Chinese checker player.
He loved reading Thornton Burgess books to his children and grandchildren, making great milkshakes, and trying to figure out when his "surprise" caramels had been made for Christmas.
Bill was a lover of music, malted milk balls, caramels, rice pudding, the color purple, Royal Copenhagen, lilacs and of course, his much-adored Buckeyes.
He is survived by his wife Beverly; children Sheryl, Steve, Susan, John and his wife Jen; Stacy; grandchildren Kelby, Caitlyn, Sophie and Sarah; and great-grand-son, Cody.
A Masonic funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017, at the Bridgton Masonic Hall, 166 Harrison Rd., Bridgton. Arrangements are in the care of the Chandler Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Bridgton. Condolences and tributes may be shared with Bill's family at: www.chandlerfunerals.com.
