Joanne Cook Soule, 70
ATLANTA, Ga. -- Joanne Cook Soule, 70, of Portland, died unexpectedly on Nov. 14, 2012 in Atlanta, Ga. The daughter of Donald W. and Alice E. (Maxfield) Cook, she was born on August 11, 1942. She graduated from Deering High School and attended Westbrook College.
She was a mother of four, a grandmother of 12, a great-grandmother to two, and best friend to her dog Matilda. She will be deeply missed.
Joanne was a prominent businesswoman. She managed the family businesses until the day she died. After fighting breast cancer she opened a boutique called A Special Place. It catered directly to breast cancer patients to provide a private, comfortable setting to meet their needs while undergoing treatment.
She volunteered her time at the Project Feed Food Pantry, was an avid gardener and a committed member of The Maine Rowdies.
Joanne's greatest passion was her grandchildren. They range in age from 6 to 30. On any given weekend, for decades you could find Joanne spending quality time, playing, teaching, and creating memories that they will carry with them forever.
She was incredibly loyal to those she loved and was the foundation of her family. She taught her children the true meaning of family and unconditional love.
Joanne's strength will remain an inspiration to all who knew her. She showed the world what you can overcome when faced with adversity.
She is survived by her children, Travis P. Soule, William T. Soule and his wife Wendy, Morton H. Soule, and his wife Yvonne, Kristen J. Sturtevant and her husband Adam; her grandchildren Daniel, Kristy, William, Alexandra, Maraka, Morton, Nicholas, Isaiah, Travis, Madison, Hilton, Philip; and great-grandchildren Eddie and Dylan. She is also survived by four siblings, Elaine C. Sylvester, Donald W. Cook, Richard T. Cook and David H. Cook.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Monday Nov. 19, 2012 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland. There will be a funeral at the funeral home on Tuesday Nov. 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.
