SOUTH PORTLAND -- Jeanne D. McCullough, 74, of South Portland, died on Feb. 20, 2013, at her home after a long illness.
She was born in Sanford on Feb. 2, 1939, the daughter of Ludger and Aurore (Fontaine) Lantagne. She attended Holy Family School and was a graduate of St. Ignatius High School.
She was considered the matriarch of her home of 17 years at Gordon Green, an assisted housing long term care program formerly an Ingraham facility and now part of The Opportunity Alliance. Jeanne was a private person however not shy about letting her needs be known. Jeanne enjoyed social gatherings with friends at Ray House and Gordon Green. She had a presence about her that commanded respect.
Jeanne enjoyed the music of the 'oldies.' She was known to speak French from time to time in her home and enjoyed reading French aloud, with her care providers. Jeanne was particular about what she chose to wear and quite often what she chose to say.
Jeanne loved her family and children and talked about her children quite often throughout her life. She enjoyed a good cup of coffee and a good laughÉshe also enjoyed sight-seeing and getting out and about town.
In her last years she showed particular appreciation about life. She demonstrated great courage, strength and dignity through her struggles and challenges with health issues.
Great thanks and appreciation to her long time guardian, Jen Noonan, Dr. Kurt Ebrahim and his staff at Maine Center for Cancer Medicine, Dr. Tim DeGrinney, Dr. Labozzo and Dr. Haines, the team at Hospice of Southern Maine and all the residents and staff at Gordon Green care facility and at The Opportunity Alliance.
Besides her loving family and caregivers at Gordon Green in South Portland, she is survived by her four children, Susan, Priscilla, Allen and Gregory; her brother Robert Lantagne and his wife Louise of Sanford, brother Dennis Lantagne and his wife Maria of Sanford, and her sister Cora St. Pierre and her husband Donald of Marco Island, Fla.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday beginning at 8:45 a.m. at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford.
