Jacqueline Mae Beecher Shanning, 78
SOUTH PORTLAND - Jacqueline Mae Beecher Shanning was born in Portland on Oct. 20, 1934 and departed this life on Jan. 19 at home with her family by her bedside. She was the daughter of David and Sylvia Beecher of South Portland. She graduated from South Portland High School in 1954.
She had a career of caring for others as an LPN at Mercy Hospital, local nursing homes and several private duty patients. She was a member of the Emblem Club and the VFW Auxiliary. She loved being a mom and willingly volunteered in her children's schools and their other activities. She was also known as a mother to all, and her maternal nature made her a longtime, supportive member of AA. She loved babies, her many pets, her flower gardens, dancing, baking and the ocean. She was known to be a great listener and never met a stranger.
She is survived by her loving and caring partner Clayton Grice and puppy daughter Sweet-Pea of South Portland; her three siblings, Edward Beecher and his wife Maxine, South Portland, Sharon Coates and her husband Bill, Scarborough, John Beecher and his wife Nancy, Houston, Texas; her five children, David Baldwin and his wife Ann of Standish, Debra Danis and her husband Bob of Sanford, Diane Pettingill and her husband Scott of South Portland, Rick Baldwin and his wife Cindy of Charlotte, N.C., Sylvia Green and her husband Brian of South Portland; nine grandchildren, Jeffrey Danis and his wife Kathryn, Thomas Baillargeon, Jennifer Smith and her husband Tucker, Michael and Dustin Baldwin, Amy and Scott Baillargeon, and Kelsey and Kaitlyn Green; six great-grandchildren, Jordan and Brianna Baillargeon, Madelyn, MacNeil and Myer Smith and Logan Danis.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland, Maine 04106. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the spring.
