Gretchen Seavey Adams, 85
SOUTH PORTLAND - Gretchen Seavey Adams, 85, of South Portland, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her apartment at Gorham House on June 15, 2017.
Gretchen was born in Melrose, Mass., to Walter and Alice Hartley Seavey. She graduated from Concord High School in New Hampshire in 1949 and went on to earn her nursing degree from New England Baptist Hospital, where she met the love of her life and future husband, Gordon.
Gretchen is predeceased by her husband, Gordon Franklin Adams; and her son, Jeffrey Stephen Adams. She is survived by daughter, Cindy and her husband, Chris Blanchard, son Bob Adams and his wife Linda; grandchildren, Caryn and her husband Randy, CJ, Maddy, Ellie, and Charlie; and great-grandson, Rylan; her two sisters and their husbands, Debby and Herb Little, and Martha and Peter Bartlett; and her beloved cat, Chester.
Gretchen was loving and generous, and her kindness touched everyone she met. She enjoyed hosting monthly Second Sunday dinners with her children and grandchildren. She also loved to attend her grandchildren's activities and performances. Gretchen was very giving and loved to send cards for even the smallest of special occasions. She was an avid knitter and was very active in her church. Her sparkling presence will be missed by all who knew her.
Visiting hours will be 4-7 p.m., Monday, June 19, at
Hobbs Funeral Home
, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 20, at the First Congregational Church, 301 Cottage Road, South Portland. Interment will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 20, in Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland.
