ACTON - Gertrude V. Ayer, 92, of Milton Mills Road in Acton, Maine, died Sunday morning, Oct. 9, 2005 at the Newton Center in Sanford.
Born Oct. 11, 1912 in Quincy, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Peter and Annie (Colbert) Boisclair. She moved to Milton Mills, N.H., in 1932 and resided in Acton since 1942.
A homemaker and mother, she loved to do crafts. In earlier years, she was a switchboard operator in Milton Mills, N.H., for New England Telephone and Telegraph Company. She also loved her German Shepherd dogs.
Gertrude was thrilled to have traveled to Ireland, where she has ancestors. She almost attained her 93rd birthday, which would have been on Tuesday.
The widow of the late Richard E. Ayer, who died in 1973, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Rita) Mee of Wassaic, New York and Mrs. Victor (Charlotte) Mee of Acton; three grandchildren, Wendy and husband Tom Purcell of Wingdale, N.Y., Diane and husband Arthur Evans of Hesperus, Colo., and Chief Master Sergeant Douglas and his wife Carol Mee of Washington, Penn.; and four great-grandchildren, also several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m. at the Milton Mills Cemetery in Milton Mills, N.H., with the Rev. Colin Gray, pastor of Liberty Chapel Congregational Church of Milton Mills, officiating. There are no calling hours, family and friends are welcome to the service.
If desired, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the charity of one's choice.
