George A. Goepfert, 83
HOUSTON, Texas, and Cumber-land Center - George A. Goepfert passed away on April 30, 2017. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on Feb. 25, 1934, to Hazel and George A. Goepfert Sr.
He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with honors and was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, which he pursued at Hanover Technical Institute in Hanover, Germany.
He joined Exxon in 1956 and retired in 1986. His career focused on the Far East, residing in Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan and Hong Kong for various assignments during 17 years.
He is survived by his wife, Petrina; three children, Karen, Laura and Ian; and grandson Griffin.
During his retirement years, he and Petrina travelled extensively.
He also participated in an International Executive Service Corp (IESC) assignment in Poland.
The family enjoyed may trips to Maine, including the annual Christmas gathering.
A memorial service will be held at Emmaus Lutheran Church at 265 Middle Rd., Falmouth, on June 21 at 3 p.m.
