Frances M. (Anifant) Kinberg, 81
GIG HARBOR, Wash. - Frances M. (Anifant) Kinberg, 81, who was born in Portland, Maine, died on May 27, 2017, in Gig Harbor, after a long illness, from complications from a stroke.
She was the daughter of the late Charles and Karmaline Anifant, of Portland, Maine.
She was predeceased by two husbands, Nathaniel Mandel and Marvin Kinberg, of Sitka, Alaska; sister Margaret Maguire and her husband Jack Maguire; and beloved 11-year-old grandson Seth Mandel.
She is survived by sister Joan Anifant, of Scarborough, brothers David Anifant, of Hyde Park, N.Y. and Michael Anifant, of Bedford, N.H.; daughter Rachel Trappen, of Gig Harbor, sons Greg Mandel, of Sitka and Pete Mandel, of Anchorage, Alaska, daughter Margo Mandel, of Anchorage; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved very much.
Frances graduated in 1953 from the former Cathedral High School in Portland, and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, in Portland, in 1956. After graduation, she went to Alaska and began her work as a registered nurse in Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital, for Alaskan natives. She formed many health programs, and was the first certified diabetes nurse educator in Alaska.
She will be buried in Anchorage.
