Edna Louise Libby, 85
PORTLAND - Edna Louise Libby, 85, of Portland, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Dec. 31, 2017.
Edna was born on July 31, 1932, in Portland, to James Irvin and Nellie Elizabeth Sawyer.
She married John "Jack" Libby on Sept. 5, 1948, and they had six children, Katherine, John Jr., Gene, David, Barbara, and Danny.
Edna was a lifelong Portland resident and was a familiar face to many around the city. She would always stop to say hello and pass out treats to her "friends" working in various locations around town while out on daily walks.
She loved spending time with her family most of all. Her hobbies included playing cribbage and dice games, going to Bingo, doing word search puzzles, playing the harmonica, and cooking for her family.
Edna loved God, attending church, and spending time volunteering at and attending programs at The Root Cellar.
Edna was predeceased by her parents, Irvin and Nellie; her husband, Jack; two sons, Jackie and Danny; a brother, Louis; and two sisters, Gladys and Delores.
Surviving are her daughter, Katherine McKenzie, of Portland; son, Gene Libby, of Portland; son, David Libby, and his wife Jen, of Mexico; daughter, Barbara Foss, and her husband Bob, of Auburn; as well as eight grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a sister, Victoria Conley, of Scarborough; a brother, Frank Sawyer, and his wife Helen, of Windham; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service from 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at The Root Cellar, 94 Washington Ave., in Portland.
