Douglas 'Doug' Lee Stanley, 64
BUXTON -- Douglas 'Doug' Lee Stanley, age 64, passed away after complications from a stroke after surgery on Feb. 1, 2013 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland.
He was born in Farmington, on April 11, 1948, a son of the late Laurence and Pauline (Kingsbury) Stanley. He graduated from Wilton schools and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
Doug began his career as a physical education teacher at Saco schools, and taught there for many years. Later, he went on to work at the Mable I. Wilson School in the Cumberland and North Yarmouth school district and retired from there after 25 years of service.
For many years he was involved with the Rec. Departments in Saco and Cumberland.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, playing golf, and antiquing. He will also be forever remembered for his love of coaching, especially for his son and daughter's travel teams.
He is predeceased by his parents and his sister- Eunice Decker.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife whom he married in 1974- Linda (Penkalski) Stanley; son- Joseph Stanley of Shapleigh, daughter- Sophia Kelly and her husband Ryan of Buxton; brother- Brent Stanley of Wilton; and a grandson- Trevor.
Visiting hours will be on Monday, Feb. 4, from 2-5 p.m., followed by a 5 p.m. memorial service at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, located on the corners of Rts. 202 and 4A (13 Portland Rd) in Buxton (Bar Mills).
