CHESTERTOWN, N.Y. -- David D. 'Darry' Vanderwarker, 74, died on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, unexpectedly at his home.
Born on Jan. 11, 1939, in Glens Falls, N.Y., he was the son of the late David F. and Mazella (Baker) Vanderwarker.
Darry served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years as a Petty Officer First Class, electrical repairman and served in Viet Nam for three tours.
After retiring from the Navy he was employed as an electrician at the ship yard in Norfolk, Va., and later retired for the second time as maintenance worker for the University of Southern Maine. Darry's hobbies included NASCAR, Patriots football and traveling.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his two wives, Charleen (Ensley) Vanderwarker and Anne (Sawyer) Murphy Vanderwarker; and one sister, Sharon Christensen. Survivors include six children, Elizabeth (Ronald Bouchard) Libby, Mark Vanderwarker, Lynne (Richard) Gipp, Sue (Martin) Montena, Ken (Helen) Murphy, Jill (Joe Denton) Murphy; also grandchildren, Jada (Terry), Holly (Mike), Marc, Amanda, Josh (Kate), Jeffrey (Charity), Alecia (David), Kenney (Jennifer), Ashley; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services with military honors will be at Chester Rural Cemetery in Chestertown in the spring. Arrangements are entrusted to Barton-McDermott Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Pine St., Chestertown, N.Y.
