Darryl Douglas
Thomas Jr., 51
CONWAY, S.C. -- Darryl Douglas Thomas Jr., 51, passed away in the early hours of Dec. 9, 2012, in Conway, S.C.
He was born in Portland on June 25, 1961, and spent his childhood in Buxton. In 1984, he moved to South Carolina to pursue his love for carpentry where he could work in that field year round. In later years, Darryl owned several businesses including a picnic table and small landscaping business. Even after he became ill, he continued to work each day and could be seen throughout the neighborhood providing landscaping services through the rain or shine.
Darryl settled in Conway, S.C., and was happy there living close to several long time friends. Darryl loved gardening and talking about the vegetables that he so successfully cultivated, being outside around the campfire swapping stories with his friends, taking care of his pets including any stray cat that happened into the yard and particularly one-eyed Jack-his favorite dog. Darryl could watch old western movies and television shows for hours with any movie starring John Wayne being his favorite. Although he missed Maine and his family and he visited throughout the years, he was always drawn back to living in the south and in particular South Carolina.
He is survived by his father, Darryl D. Thomas Sr. and his wife Amber from Unity; his step-mother, Dawna M. Thomas from Buxton and Green Valley, Ariz.; his sisters, Terryn Roberts from Buxton, Kelly Roberts Raye from Ocean Park, Lisa Thomas Reimer from Middletown, R.I., Heather Thomas Artus from Weare, N.H.; as well as many aunts, uncles; cousins; nieces and nephews. In South Carolina, he is survived by his loving care givers and best friends ,Mike and Robin Hankins and JI Roberson, all of Conway. He was predeceased by his long-time partner, Rita.
The celebration of his life will be private.
