Cecile T. O'Gara, 90
WESTBROOK - Cecile T. O'Gara, 90, died Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at her home. A lifelong resident of Westbrook, she was born here, daughter of Eugene and Ida Tanguay. She attended St. Hyacinths Elementary School and Westbrook High School where she enjoyed playing basketball and graduated in 1944. She later graduated from Northeastern Business School in Portland.
She enjoyed being outdoors, especially time at the beach and skiing.
Cecile worked in the bookkeeping profession with several local credit unions and banks, as well as the accounting department at the Dana Warp Mill. Her first priority, however, was always her faith and her family. She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and served on the St. Hyacinth's School committee. She displayed seemingly unlimited energy raising her FIVE children with her husband Robert and their extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Edmond and his wife Phyllis, and her nephew Butch Tanguay.
She is survived by her children and their families: son Peter of Westbrook, and his children, Tracy O'Gara and Jean Reed, and granddaughter Abigail Reed; daughter Susan and her husband Jon Kidder of Charleston AFB, SC, their children Ana and Ben; son David of Westbrook and his children Alison and Carrie; son Mark of Westbrook; and son John and his wife Paula of Ashland, Mass., and their children Robert and Marisa.
Visiting hours will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 4, at Blais and Hay Funeral Home, Westbrook. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, followed by burial in St. Hyacinth Cemetery.
The family extends thanks to the many professionals who have provided care to Cecile over the years.
