Carolyn E. Marden, 89
GORHAM - Carolyn E. Marden, 89, of South Portland, and New Port Richey, Fla., passed away on Oct. 1, 2017.
Carolyn was born Dec. 2, 1928, in Old Town, the daughter of Frederick G. and Charlotte Fortier.
She came to South Portland as a teen and attended South Portland schools.
Carolyn was employed as a waitress at various restaurants in the Portland area. She later worked for the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (where she met her husband, Edward) and later for Aetna Insurance Co. Carolyn and Edward retired early and spent 25 years in Florida.
Carolyn loved animals and always said she should have been raised on a farm. She was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. She also loved going on cruises with Ed.
Carolyn always had a smile on her face. She was an excellent seamstress and boy, could she knit! She made mittens and sweaters for every family member and every child she met. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Carolyn was predeceased by her husband, Edward, and her grandson, Christopher Stone.
She is survived by son, Gene F. Stone, of The Villages, Fla.; granddaughter, Kimberly Stone, of South Portland; as well as a sister, Loraine Preston, who died 30 minutes later in Lewiston.
We give thanks to the staff of Village Crossing of Cape Elizabeth, The Gorham House and to Hospice, Compassus House of Scarborough.
Services will be private. Arrangements are under the guidance of
