Carmen M. Darkis, 75
BANGOR - Carmen M. Darkis died on May 7, 2018, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor after a long battle with Breast Cancer. She was born in Westbrook on Jan. 2, 1943, the daughter of Albany and Yvonne (Pelletier) Martel.
Carmen graduated from Westbrook High School in 1961. Following graduation, she went to work for Maine Maritime Academy in Castine. She then moved to Bangor and worked in the Banking Industry. Carmen was an active member of the Maine Breast Cancer Coalition in which see received the "Lifetime Inspiration Award" in 2012. She made many trips to the National Breast Cancer Coalition in Washington, D.C. to advocate and lobby.
In addition to her parents, sister Lorraine Caldwell and brother Joseph Martel predeceased her. Carmen is survived by sister Annette Wescott; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Burial will be private at a later date.
