Bil Harrison Obituary
Bil Harrison, 72
PORTLAND - Bil Harrison, 72, passed to the other side, drawing pen at the ready, on Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, and always will be lovingly re-membered by family, friends, and legends of art lovers for his infectious cackle, that mischievous gleam in his eye, and for the incredible amount of fantastic art he created in his lifetime.
Bil could quite possibly have been the most prolific artist in the history of the city of Portland. Literally thousands of his finely-drawn illustrations of the city's skyline and landmark buildings, like Union Station, Fort Gorges, and the the Munjoy Hill Observatory, have been sold through Mainely Frames and Gallery, 541 Congress Street, as well as off the walls of places like Commercial Street Pub, DiMillo's, Rosie's, and, of course, his favorite haunt, Ruski's, where he never ceased to amuse, interest, aggravate and delight.
Leo Pelletier, a longtime friend and patron of Bil's, and the owner of Mainely Frames and Gallery, put together and had published an extensive collection of Bil's work in a handsome hard-cover coffee table book, which is available at the gallery. Bil scoffed at sentiment, of course, but the first time he flipped through the pages of the book a tear came to his eye. We knew he had it in him.
Bil is survived by his loving sons, Ben and Gabriel, and they would like to thank Bil's many friends for their support and well wishes. Arrangements have been made with Full-Body Donation through MedCure, Portland, Ore.
There will be a celebration of Bil's life on Wednesday, Sept. 14, from 4 p.m. onward, at (where else) Ruski's, 212 Danforth St. Portland. All are invited to view a collection of Bil's work, share memories, and party down the way Bil would want you to.
