Beatrice Elizabeth Rhuda, 88
SCARBOROUGH -- Beatrice Elizabeth Rhuda, 88, a resident of So. Portland for 52 years, died Friday, Nov., 9, 2012, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
She was born on March 3, 1924, in Augusta, the daughter of Fredrick and Phyllis Chatto. Mrs. Rhuda grew up in Augusta and graduated from Cony High School in 1941. She attended Eastern Nazarene College and nursing school before marrying Kenneth M. Rhuda in 1944.
Mrs. Rhuda was a life-long Nazarene and a long-time member of the Cape Elizabeth Church of the Nazarene. She loved gardening, sewing, crocheting and knitting mittens and throws for friends and family. She taught macrame and did ceramics from her Preble St. home. For many years Mrs. Rhuda also sewed children's clothes for Healthtex in Portland.
Mrs. Rhuda was predeceased by her husband; son Wayne, daughter Deborah; and three grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Patricia and her husband Roger Merrill, of Jefferson, and son Bruce Rhuda of Wells; eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
A committal service is scheduled for Nov. 21, 2012 at 9 a.m at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland. A coffee fellowship will follow at the Cape Elizabeth Church of the Nazarene.
