Barbara Claire Yates, 82
PORTLAND - Barbara Claire Yates, 82, passed away at home on April 17, 2017, from cancer.
She was born in Rumford, on Dec. 28, 1934, the daughter of Augustus J. Lowell and May Walker.
She grew up in the Redbank neighborhood in South Portland. She worked as a CNA and home health care aide for many years in the greater Portland area.
She enjoyed reading, knitting, and Tuesday Bingo at the Elks Club on Congress Street. She engaged in many charitable endeavors, loved animals, and was devoted to her family.
She was predeceased by two daughters, Dianne J. Monaghan and Kathleen Yates; and a granddaughter, Tammy J. Daigle.
Barbara is survived by her other six children, Kenneth A. Yates and his wife Yeong Yates, Manley N. Yates, Gloria L. Yates, Brenda L. Chadwick, Carol L. Farris and her husband Alan D. Farris, and Darlene L. Walker; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
A memorial celebration for her friends and family will be held at 100 State Street in Portland, on Sunday, April 23, at 2 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to
