Arthur Eugene Doughty, 74
WESTBROOK - Arthur Eugene Doughty, 74, "ART," beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away surrounded by his loving family on June 10, 2017, after a long and strong battle with cancer.
He was born in Westbrook, on June 24, 1942, and attended Westbrook schools, graduating in 1961 and then joined the U.S. Air Force after graduation. He worked as a butcher for many years, and one of his favorite stories was how he butchered meat for U.S. Air Force One and President John F. Kennedy.
In 1961, he met his wife, Irene Doughty, at Panther Pond in Raymond, and they married on March 12, 1966, in Freeport, N.Y.
Arthur was a true outdoorsman. Hunting and fishing were his passion. He enjoyed many years going to Jackman, and fishing on Sebago Lake, the Saco River, and smelting in Brunswick. His favorite times were spent on his boat. He retired in 1999 from the U.S. Postal Service after 25 years. In addition to being an avid outdoors man, Arthur was an amazing Grandpa, too. He loved spending time with his 11 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, Helen Wanda Merrill and Linwood Eugene Doughty; and son, Jason Robert Doughty.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Doughty; brother, Tom Doughty; sisters Linda Hoitt, Martha Brackett, Linda Woodberry, Jane Freeman and Joanna Alexander; his daughters, Kathleen Doughty and fiancé Lance Mattatall, Pamela Irish and husband Matthew Irish, Amy Bragg and husband Brian Bragg, and Leanne Solven and husband Matt Solven; son Eugene Doughty and wife Krissy D. Lombard; grandchildren, Tyler and wife Melissa; Tanner, Trevin, and Troy Dunlea; Danielle and Meghan Irish; Kaleigh and Kaitlyn Bragg; and Sophia, Sadie and Jonas Solven.
