Arlene K. Mitsmenn, 95
GORHAM - Arlene K. Mitsmenn, 95, passed away on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, in her home of 67 years in Gorham, surrounded by her family and caregivers. She fought a long battle with dementia.
The daughter of Joseph and Blanche (Conley) Kinney, she was born in Washburn on Oct. 8, 1922. She attended Sheridan and Ashland schools and graduated from Hallowell High School, Class of 1941. She furthered her education by attending Kennebec School of Commerce in Gardiner, and then Gray's Business College in Portland. After school, she became a teletype operator for Western Union in the Washington, D.C., area. Upon returning to the Portland area, she continued working for Western Union and also worked for Devonshire Financial Services.
On May 21, 1949, she married her husband, Donald G. Mitsmenn. They were married for 51 years until he passed away Dec. 8, 2000.
She was also predeceased by her brothers, Joseph I. Kinney, formerly of Worchester, Mass.; and Roger Kinney, formerly of Hartford, Conn.
She is survived by her son, Donald L. Mitsmenn, and his wife Sandra, of Scarborough; her daughter, Mary Jane Parks, and her husband Timothy, of Sidney; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the great team at VNA Home Health Hospice of Maine, with a special thank you to Liz, Jennifer, Kristy, Hope, and all who helped with the goal of letting Arlene pass peacefully and with dignity in the comfort of her own home. Her family would also like to thank their mother's dedicated caregivers, Judie, and Monique; without their daily commitment, this goal could not have been possible.
At Arlene's request, there will be no services at this time. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Dolby, Blais, & Segee Funeral Chapel, Gorham.
