SCARBOROUGH -- Theodora 'Teddy' Booker Dickey, of Scarborough, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough surrounded by all of her loving family. She was born in Anson on Sept. 21, 1931, the daughter of Bertha Parlin Booker and Walter Theodore Booker. Teddy has been a resident of Scarborough since November of 1972.
She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Walter and Roger; her husband, Lawrence 'Mike;' and their son, Randy. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie and her husband Michael; her two greatest joys, her grandchildren, Katelynne and Brandon Ruel, also of Scarborough; a very special daughter-in-law, Joan Mitchell and her husband Henry of Bowdoinham; one sister, Beatrice Gwendelyne Booker of Lake Alfred, Fla.; as well as several sister and brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. Teddy graduated from Madison High School, Class of 1950, and has been a devoted member of the Eunice Farnsworth-Ruth Heald Cragin Chapter of DAR ('Daughters of the American Revolution') for 52 years and the Emerald Rebekah Lodge No. 65 for 59 years, serving as Noble Grand in 1958.
Teddy worked for the Scarborough School Department in the school's hot lunch program for about 38 years or so, until she was diagnosed with liver cancer. Teddy was happiest when she was cooking up delicious meals for her family and friends, making homemade chocolates and candy at Christmas time with a dear friend, attending Dickey family gatherings, spending winters in Florida and taking special trips with family and friends, and doing for others.
In addition, Teddy's family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at Gosnell House for the loving and compassionate care provided to her and her family during her short stay there, as well as the homecare nurses who cared for Teddy from Hospice of Southern Maine.
