Russell A. Fletcher, 88
OLD ORCHARD BEACH -- Russell A. Fletcher, of 8 Oakcrest Dr., Old Orchard Beach, died on Dec. 11, 2012, at the age of 88 with his two sons by his side.
Russell was born on June 6, 1924, the son of Lewis and Dela Fletcher. He attended Saco schools.
Russell was a veteran of the U.S. Navy
and was stationed in Quonset Point, R.I., during World War II
On Nov. 17, 1945, he married Elaine Kershaw of Amesbury, Mass. She died in 2008.
Russell spent most of his life in Old Orchard Beach raising his family. After the war, he worked as a loom fixer at both the Pepperell and Bates Mills in Biddeford. He worked for many years as a delivery driver for Wonder Bread/Hostess. He then worked several more years as a loom fixer at Biddeford Textile before retiring at age 79 in 2003.
Russell enjoyed spending time with his wife and two sons. He enjoyed family road trips, Sunday dinners watching the Patriots, and golfing at Biddeford-Saco CC.
Russell is survived by his companion, Pat Reny of Saco; his two sons, Kenney and Kurt of Old Orchard Beach; and his three brothers, Richard of Old Orchard Beach, Bradley of Biddeford, and Donald of York. He was predeceased by his three sisters, Thelma Smart, Earline Marro, and Marylin Turner, and a brother, Roger Fletcher.
Visiting hours will be on Friday evening, Dec. 14, from 6-8 p.m., at the Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home, 36 Portland Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m., at St. Margaret's Church of Good Shepherd Parish, in Old Orchard Beach. Burial will be at a later date.
